I've added a new style sheet to the website and made it easier to change the webpage style from any page. You can now click the style links in the top right of all pages in order to switch to a different style. This accomplishes the same thing as selecting the stylesheet from your browser's menus (if supported).

I realize that I accidentally broke merge mode in the most recent release of MetFileRegenerator. The breakage was a result of the code cleanup which was a major part of this release. I have fixed that problem, but in the process of testing it to make sure it worked I found that there was a much more serious problem in how I determine what gaps to use to transfer data from one file to another. It wouldn't be overly detrimental to your files; the data would still be moved from one to the other, but certain portions would be skipped and it's never a good sign when it says it's going to transfer -30MB from one of your files to the other. I am going away for the weekend so I won't be able to fix it for a couple days, but I plan on looking at it either Sunday or Monday night, and since it's a problem with how I compare filegaps I will be going over the "check filegaps" functionality as well to ensure that there are no off by 1 errors there.

MetFileRegenerator v3.0.16 is now available. It provides support for files larger than 4GB and better support for files with unicode names. See the changelog for more details. This will most likely be the last version of MFR to require v1.4. The next version (v3.1) will require Java v1.5 in order to install and run. If any major bugs are found and fix I may release an upgrade to this version which runs on Java v1.4.

This version also breaks support for large files in eDonkey/Overnet clients prior to v0.49. It was an unfortunate result of adding large file support, but it only affects files that are within 9MB of 4GB so I didn't think it was a huge concern given the age of those clients and the limited scope of the problem.

MetFileRegenerator v3.0.15.1 is now available. It is mainly a language update and includes a full Spanish translation and an almost complete Polish translation. See the changelog for more details.

MetaMachine has thrown in the towel so to speak, and the eDonkey client is no longer available. Regardless of any methods that can be used to resuccitate it I have removed all links to the eDonkey website from my site. For the moment all the content in the eDonkey section will remain available and accessible, but at some future date it will most likely disappear so if there's something you want to grab you'd better grab it now.

MetFileRegenerator v3.015 is now released. It offers quite a bit of increased functionality over the previous versions, but nothing you couldn't live without. As I mentioned below I've added the ability for MetFileRegenerator to use a native library for hashing on Windows and Linux. I've also added a cancel button which was requested quite some time ago. Enjoy.

August 25, 2006

I'm almost done with the next version of MetFileRegenerator. The main new feature was going to be a cancel button on the progress dialog so you could stop MetFileRegenerator without having to kill it from the task manager, but as I was adding that I came up with something better. Don't worry, that feature was still implemented, it's just that this other feature is a better improvement in my eyes.

A while ago I tinkered around with the idea of using a native C++ library to perform the hashing in MetFileRegenerator since Java isn't necessarily the most efficient way to do an enormous amount of calculations. The stumbling block was that the Java Native Interface (JNI) is rather complicated and I didn't have any C/C++ code to do the hashing. Well that's changed now. The next version of MetFileRegenerator for Windows will come with a md4.dll file to perform hashing and the Linux version will come with a matching libmd4.so file. Both these were compiled on 32bit systems (Windows XP and Debian Etch) and should work on all 32bit Windows and Linux systems. I don't have a Mac to compile or test with so I'm not sure how to properly set it up for their use. If anyone is interested in getting this to work on other systems let me know and we'll try to work something out.

As my first attempt to improve the documentation for MetFileRegenerator I've added a few more HOWTOs and improved the layout.

So apparently when I added the check for & in links I managed to break the eDonkey Firefox Extension by not properly escaping a few things. I've repaired the damage and v0.5.5 is now available. If you have v0.5.4 or v0.5.3 installed you should be able to upgrade from within Firefox, otherwise you can download the new version from here.

MetFileRegenerator v3.014.2 is a language upgrade which offers a complete translation of Dutch and a more complete translation of German. Unless you use those languages in MFR there is no need to upgrade. For the next version I am hoping to add a cancel button to the processes so that the longer ones like recovery/conversion/completion can be stopped if you had accidentally clicked next. I am also hoping to produce some rea l documentation with pictures and explanation in the very near future. I realize I've said that before, but I've got some time and the current documentation is seriously lacking in many ways.

MetFileRegenerator v3.014.1 is a minor update which includes the full Finnish translation, an updated Italian translation and fixes a typo on the Merge Destination panel. I will be releasing new versions as I receive more updated translations. I realize the installer still says v3.014, but it is updated, I promise.

June 21, 2006

MetFileRegenerator v3.014 is a significant upgrade from v3.013.11. It adds support for merging downloads, fixes several bugs, and adds a complete Finnish translation.

I stumbled across an excrutiatingly slow website which used & in their URLs and thus my extension would do best to ignore them, however, they did not also have a ? as most URLs of that form do so they were not being skipped. I've added an additional check for & to take care of sites like that, and a new version of the eDonkey Firefox Extension is now available. Those of you who have already installed v0.5.3 should be able to automatically update through Firefox.

April 26, 2006

I've added an update link to the eDonkey Firefox Extension so that it can be updated from within Firefox now. I've also increased the max version to 2.0+ since it works with the Bon Echo alphas.

March 2, 2006

MetFileRegenerator v3.013.11 is a minor upgrade that adds an options screen that allows users to set a few persistent options. v3.014 will be finished soon and will include merge support.

February 20, 2006

Minor bug in the eDonkey Firefox Extension which caused an error message to be displayed when browsing parts of GMail. A new version is available that fixes the problem.

February 1, 2006

Forgot to make my extension compatible with 1.5 updates so once you get the new firefox update it will stop working. A new version is now available.

January 17, 2006

Made some minor changes to the site. The titles of pages now change to reflect the specific page, dunno why I didn't do that a while ago.

December 28, 2005

Added a new skin by Eddy, Simplicity.

December 10, 2005

New version of the eDonkey Firefox Extension which allows you to specify which file extensions should be ignored when checking for .ed2k files. This should make your browsing experience quicker since it will be more intelligent about which links it checks.

December 6, 2005

New version of the eDonkey Firefox Extension which makes it compatible with Firefox v1.5. It should also work quicker than the previous version since it will now ignore any links that contain ? or # as well as links that end in php, js, pl, asp, and cgi.

November 20, 2005

Added a few more Italian skins and fixed the language links that add all the skins of a specific language to your eDonkey client.

November 1, 2005

I've updated the Linux and Mac OSX versions of MetFileRegenerator so that the archives properly save the executable bit of the run script. This should fix any problems people were having on Mac OSX and make it slightly easier for the Linux users as well.

October 22, 2005

MetFileRegenerator v3.013.10 released. Fixes an error in verification mode.

October 12, 2005

MetFileRegenerator v3.013.9 released.

October 3, 2005

Added a new skin Battlestar Galactica by Eddy.

September 20, 2005

I know it's been a while, but I've added all the remaining v1.4 skins.

August 3, 2005

Added many skins for eDonkey v1.4 which has recently been released. I've got a backlog of Italian skins that I'll be adding soon. I've also almost finished work on the somewhat redesigned skins section. You can now view skins by language, however the links that will add them all to your client's download list are currently not working.
